Since 1997 Joe has been working predominantly with old buildings. He has refined the traditional skills required for such projects and built a team that understands what it takes to work in this often demanding sector.
We have built positive relationships with local authorities and heritage specialists who monitor work carried out on listed buildings.
We can help with planning advice and written schemes of work necessary for listed projects.
We started our Passivhaus journey back when Passivhaus principles were in the early stages of development in the UK. We learnt and developed our Passivhaus understanding and skills by working alongside an emerging local Firm (who now specialise in just Passivhaus) where we completed two certified Passive homes.
As a company we are excited by new developments in Passivhaus building. Even if you are not looking for formal certification, we are able to apply the same principles to your project. We have built several extensions and carried out renovations using strict Passivhaus principles without certification.
Whilst Passivhaus principles are a little extreme for some, using some of the products and principles in certain areas can give climate control gains for minimal effort and cost.
This is of particular interest as we can use these techniques in old and listed buildings to make significant improvements even if Passivhaus certification is not possible – a good example being the minimisation cold bridging in design which is challenging aspect of working on old properties.
PH principle work is perfectly in line with our thorough and meticulous approach and the way we work together - meaning we all have a common goal.

We can check your architectural plans and specifications to ensure they are buildable, comprehensive and consistent.
Many clients now ask for us to suggest how they might make improvements to their plans beyond those required by current building regulations.
We can help inform your decisions on a variety of elements such as methods of construction, levels of air-tightness and insulation, glazing specifications, heating and mechanical heat recovery systems etc.
Using your designs and specifications, we can give you a detailed line by line estimate of what it will cost to build your project, help you understand risks and advise on how best to reduce costs or risks if required.
Our project manager directs and schedules the individual tradespeople whilst giving you guidance and support for materials procurement.
This trade by trade approach is typically used by self-builders who want to have a hands-on involvement with their project.
